BYO Dressing to the Salad Bar

Home Food BYO Dressing to the Salad Bar

Salad bars are wonderful since they let you customize your salad to your liking. There’s a pretty awesome salad bar at the dining hall at work. Although the selections vary from day to day, they often have quite a good selection of ingredients to choose from. And at a few bucks a pound, I’m able to build some colorful and satisfying salads.

I tend to steer away from salad dressings when I’m out (unless I’m eating Vietnamese, then I welcome the ngoc nam with open arms). I hesitate about the salad dressing because many times I’m either unaware of the ingredients in the dressing, or I’m discouraged by the use of artificial flavors and colors. Therefore, I often opt for either a simple olive oil, a balsamic vinaigrette, or no dressing at all.

As part of a Foodbuzz Tastemaker program with Marzetti Simply Dressed, I received a coupon for a free bottle of Marzetti Simply Dressed Salad Dressings. Their salad dressings appealed to me because of their emphasis on using all-natural ingredients, such as extra virgin olive oil, canola oil (source of Omega-3 ALA) and sea salt and NO preservatives, trans fats, high fructose corn syrup, MSG or artificial flavors or colors. They come in ten different varieties to choose from creamy ones to oil based ones.

I picked up a bottle of their all natural pomegranate vinaigrette dressing and decided to BYOD (Dressing) to the salad bar. I assembled my salad with a bed of spring mix greens, along with cucumber slices, baby corn, assorted bell peppers, mushroom slices, green olives, and topped with mixed nuts, raisins, and dried cranberries. Lastly, I drizzled the pomegranate vinaigrette dressing on top.

The pomegranate vinaigrette was tasty. The flavors were not overwhelming and blended well with my salad. I didn’t find it to be overly sweet or heavy, but I would still use it in moderation. The dressing had a nice consistency, not too thick or oily. I think the sweetness of the pomegranate would go well with greens like arugula or kale, which have a more pungent taste.

In addition to using Marzetti Simply Dressed on your favorite salad creations, the dressings can also be applied over grilled vegetables or added into wraps. Check out Marzetti Simply Dressed in the refrigerated section at a grocery store near you.
