Came across a nice lunch spot in Lakeview for noodles. Penny’s Noodle Shop is located right by the Diversey Brown/Purple line station, at 950 W. Diversey Ave. They offer a variety of noodle dishes, from Pad Thai to vermicelli salad noodles to chicken rice noodle soup. They also serve rice dishes and small appetizers like gyozas, spring rolls, and seaweed salad. Most of their main dishes are $10 or under, making it a convenient and inexpensive spot to pick up a quick meal.
Here’s their Vietnamese Spring Roll, which often is referred to as summer roll since it’s served cold and not crispy like a typical egg spring roll. It uses a rice paper wrapper and is filled with soft cooked rice vermicelli noodles, lettuce, sprouts, green onion, cucumber, cilantro, basil, and shredded carrots. This one doesn’t have shrimp or pork. It’s served along a hoisin dipping sauce, topped with crushed peanuts.
Here’s their Vegetarian Bowl which has thin rice noodles and tofu in a vegetable broth. It’s served along with shredded lettuce, red cabbage, carrots, bean sprouts, green onions, cilantro, crushed peanuts and slices of lime.
