National Donut Day is a food holiday every year on the first Friday of June, and many donut shops and chains will be offering donut freebies. A little history on National Donut Day: The holiday began in 1938 as a fundraiser created by The Salvation Army to honor The Salvation Army women “Donut Lassies” who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War 1.
