A few days ago, I read about one of Denny’s new menu items that left me wowed and boggled at the same time. The Mac ‘n Cheese Big Daddy Patty Melt is one of the six new cheese-inspired dishes that Denny’s introduced in their Let’s Get Cheesy menu that they launched the other week. The Mac ‘n Cheese Big Daddy Patty Melt is described as “a hand-pressed beef patty topped with new creamy Mac ‘n Cheese, melted cheddar cheese and zesty Frisco sauce on grilled potato bread, served with a side of wavy-cut French fries.” At first, that actually sounded quite amazing to me, or at least the idea of Mac ‘n Cheese inside a sandwich did.

However, the part that was horrifying was the nutritional profile. According to Denny’s website, this ultimate creation contains 1690 calories in their 21oz serving. Sure there’s 64g of protein and 7g of fiber, but there’s also 99g fat, 180mg cholesterol, and 2010mg sodium. In my opinion, it sounds quite terrifying to try to eat that alone in one sitting or even watch someone eat it. If you’re sharing it among a large crowd, maybe. I do like the concept though. I’d be interested if anyone tries to recreate that dish and make it less dangerous for your health. What are your thoughts about the Mac ‘n Cheese Big Daddy Patty Melt? Are you intrigued or disturbed?

The Let’s Get Cheesy menu also includes other breakfast, lunch, and dinner items like the Cheesy Breakfast Sampler and the Big Cheese Country-Fried Steak & Eggs, as well as ones with fun names like the Cheese Please Omelette, Winner Winner Cheesy Dinner, and Say Cheese Sizzlin’ Skillet. They are really trying to appeal to the cheese lovers out there. And if you want more cheese, they are offering the option to add extra cheese for 69 cents. On the other hand, if the entree items are too much for you, they are letting diners substitute Mac ‘n Cheese to any entree for no extra charge. For dessert, they are suggesting the new Strawberry Pancake Puppies® with Cream Cheese Icing or the Strawberry Cheesecake Milk Shake to conclude the cheesy meal. Might sound great for cheese lovers out there, or a nightmare for the lactose-intolerant.

Well, if you plan on hitting up Denny’s any time soon, here’s a coupon for 20% off the entire guest check, valid at participating restaurants. Offer good until Sept 17, 2011.
