Celebrate 7-Eleven Day with a Free Slurpee

Although I’m not a huge carbonated beverage drinker, Slurpees bring back childhood memories. When I walked by a nearby 7-Eleven the other day and saw this poster on the window, I was reminded that Monday July 11 is 7-Eleven Day! And, you know what that means… FREE Slurpees (at participating locations, of course)!!

So, mark your calendars and stop by a 7-Eleven on Monday for your complimentary 7.11oz Slurpee drink. While you’re at it, grab a Birthday Donut too. I believe they’re like on promotion for 3 for $2. Or grab a hot dog since July is also National Hot Dog month.Meanwhile, let’s amuse ourselves with some fun facts on the Slurpee:

Early prototypes for the Slurpee machine made use of an automobile air conditioning unit.
When Slurpee first hit the market, it wasn’t self-serve. The machine was behind the counter and the clerk served the product to you.
Sugar is the anti-freezing agent in most Slurpee drinks.
American Slurpee is injected with air. Canadian Slurpee is not.
Half of all Slurpee drinks are purchased between the hours of 4 and 11 p.m.
In 2004, 7-Eleven created an edible Slurpee straw.

Pressing your tongue against the roof of your mouth is a known cure for brainfreeze.

Cow Appreciation Day at Chick-fil-A

This Friday July 8th, Chick-fil-A restaurants nationwide will be celebrating their annual Cow Appreciation Day. They will offer a free meal to any guest who visits the restaurant fully dressed up like a cow. Partial costumes get you a free entree. Kids in costumes get free meals too.

Need an outfit? They’ve even provided a Cow Costume Kit, or you can get creative like them.

Tuesday, March 1st is National Pancake Day at IHOP!

On Tuesday, March 1st, 2011 stop by your nearby International House of Pancakes between 7am and 10pm for National Pancake Day and get a complimentary short stack! During this event, IHOP is raising money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals so feel free to make a donation after enjoying your free pancakes.

International Waffle Day

Tomorrow, March 25th is International Waffle Day. Time to eat waffles!! Belgian waffles! Liege waffles! Scandinavian waffles! Hong Kong style waffles! Sweet waffles! Savory waffles! Gourmet waffles! Chicken and Waffles! Waffle sandwich! I’m so excited!!!!

A little about International Waffle Day
International Waffle Day originated in Sweden where it is known as Vaffeldagen (The Waffle Day). It is also known as Varfrudagen, or Feast of the Annunciation, which is nine months to the day before Christmas when Mary is visited by the angel and told that she is pregnant. Over time, it also became the celebration for the beginning of spring…. and everyone ate waffles?

On a side note: There’s also a National Waffle Day which is on August 24th. This waffle day celebrates the anniversary of the first US patent for a waffle iron.

Celebrate by whipping up a nice batch of your favorite waffles or go eat a nice delicious waffle, any variety you like! Oh, don’t forget about the toppings too! bananas! strawberries! chocolate! nutella! nuts! maple syrup! How do you like your waffles?

Tomorrow July 10th, go to a Chick-fil-A location dressed up like a cow and you get a free meal! If you do a google image search for cow appreciation day, you’ll actually come across some fun pictures of people in cow costumes at Chick-fil-A.
