September 29 is National Coffee Day! Yes, it’s another one of those un-official food holidays, but it’s always fun to celebrate foods and beverages… especially when there’s freebies and deals!

7-Eleven announced that participating locations will be offering a FREE medium coffee on Thursday between 7am and 11am your local time… more

Krispy Kreme will be giving away a FREE 12 oz cup of House Blend Coffee in the US and Canada locations… more

Not sure if there’s anything going on from Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks. They’ve joined in on this marketing gimmick opportunity in the past, but I haven’t come across anything this year.

On the topic of coffee, I used to prepare my coffee with a French press, but I recently entered a drip coffee phase. I brew my coffee using one of these Vietnamese coffee filters. Awesome for making Vietnamese style coffee (with this or this), but also very nice and convenient for making a single cup of coffee. It also fits perfectly over my Klean Kanteen!

Any way, I’m going to start the day tomorrow just like any other day with a nice fresh cup of coffee! Whether you like to drip brew or press your coffee, grind your own coffee beans, or even use instant, grab a cup and join in on the fun!

Celebrate 7-Eleven Day with a Free Slurpee

Although I’m not a huge carbonated beverage drinker, Slurpees bring back childhood memories. When I walked by a nearby 7-Eleven the other day and saw this poster on the window, I was reminded that Monday July 11 is 7-Eleven Day! And, you know what that means… FREE Slurpees (at participating locations, of course)!!

So, mark your calendars and stop by a 7-Eleven on Monday for your complimentary 7.11oz Slurpee drink. While you’re at it, grab a Birthday Donut too. I believe they’re like on promotion for 3 for $2. Or grab a hot dog since July is also National Hot Dog month.Meanwhile, let’s amuse ourselves with some fun facts on the Slurpee:

Early prototypes for the Slurpee machine made use of an automobile air conditioning unit.
When Slurpee first hit the market, it wasn’t self-serve. The machine was behind the counter and the clerk served the product to you.
Sugar is the anti-freezing agent in most Slurpee drinks.

Tomorrow July 10th, go to a Chick-fil-A location dressed up like a cow and you get a free meal! If you do a google image search for cow appreciation day, you’ll actually come across some fun pictures of people in cow costumes at Chick-fil-A.

Trip to the Kwik-E-Mart

So, I had previously mentioned on my 7-11 post, that a selected number of 7-Elevens were transformed into Kwik-E-Marts, like the ones in the Simpsons.
Well, earlier today, I made a trip to Times Square, in New York City in search of this Kwik-E-Mart.

I was very amused but it didn’t very resemble the Kwik-E-Mart as shown in the cartoon. Sure, there were squishees, pink donuts, Buzz cola, and lots of Simpsons memorabilia, but I guess it was just a little odd to have the Kwik-E-Mart in the middle of the city. I hear that the Kwik-E-Mart in Chicago resembles the one from the cartoon the most (according to the picture from the official 7-Eleven website, there’s even the parking spaces in front of the store).

Buy 3 for the Price of 3! Awesome!

Anyway, I had a lot of fun running around the store with my camera, snapping away! I was very impressed with the decorations inside the store. I liked all the cartoon character cut outs, and the Springfield posters and flyers around the store. And, there were Indian men working at the store dressed with Apu. I thought that was very cute, with the outfits and all.

Oooo!! Look at all those Pink Donuts!!!

Slurpees are one of my favorite frozen drinks ever since I was a little kid. It’s so refreshing and those brain freezes you get when you drink it too fast… wow, who can forget those.

On 7-11 Day, 7-Eleven stores gives out complimentary 7.11oz Slurpees!!!
(Too bad they don’t have one here where I am right now… closest one is like 30+ miles away.)

It’s not often that I encounter a 7-Eleven store. I know they do exist in New York City, but I just never really come across them.

Recently, while in visiting Pittsburgh, PA, I saw one and I just couldn’t resist but to pick up a 12 oz. Slurpee. I like the Coca Cola flavor best. I guess it’s because it doesn’t leave color stains on my teeth or my tongue afterwards.

So, what I’ve heard is that since the Simpsons movie will be coming out later this month (on July 27… which I’m also very excited about), a selected number of 7-Elevens have been turned into Kwik-E-Marts. Inside these Kwik-E-Marts, you would find food items from the cartoon, like squishees, buzz cola, krusty-o’s, and sorts.

Wow, that’s totally awesome. I know one thing I’ll be doing this weekend!
