For those chilly, winter days, a nice hearty bowl of hot soup is just the right thing. I ventured over to Panera Bread the other day for lunch. In addition to freshly baked goods, tasty sandwiches and salads, Panera Bread also offers a variety of soups and the selections change daily.
One of my favorite things about Panera Bread is that they offer a “You Pick 2” option, which enables you to build a meal with any two of the following items: small soup, half salad, and/or half sandwich. You also get a choice of an apple, bag of chips, or piece of bread along with your meal. (Another thing I like about Panera Bread? Free wifi!)
I went for the small soup and half sandwich option. For my choice of soup, I ordered the Low-Fat Vegetarian Black Bean Soup which features black beans simmered in a spicy vegetarian broth with onion, red bell pepper, garlic and cumin. It tastes best when it’s nice and hot, and is definitely very hearty, thick, and filling.
For my half sandwich, I picked the Mediterranean Veggie Sandwich which contains Peppadew piquant peppers, feta cheese, cucumbers, lettuce, tomatoes, onions and cilantro Jalapeño hummus on Tomato Basil bread. Since the sandwiches are made-to-order, they are usually very helpful with making ingredient substitutions when possible. I kindly asked for no cheese and rye niche instead of tomato basil bread. Since the black bean soup is very filling, the veggie sandwich is a bit on the lighter side, making it a pretty nice pairing in my opinion.
Panera Bread soups include: All-Natural Sonoma Chicken Stew, French Onion, Vegetarian Creamy Tomato, Low-Fat Chicken Noodle, Broccoli Cheddar, Low-Fat Vegetarian Black Bean, Cream of Chicken and Wild Rice, Vegetarian Garden Vegetable with Pesto, Baked Potato and New England Clam Chowder. Check out their daily soup menu to see what they are serving today. Enjoy the soup with bread or as part of a “You Pick 2” meal. Soups are also available in a bread bowl too.
