In-N-Out Burger for Vegetarians (Sorta)

If you’re a vegetarian at an In-N-Out burger (@innoutburger) and don’t want to miss out on the fun, you have a couple of choices.

Unfortunately, they don’t serve meat substitutes, so you’re basically ordering a grilled cheese sandwich.

First, they have a veggieburger option (sans beef patty), which is basically a grilled cheese sandwich with tomatoes, lettuce and choices of cheese and/or onions.

And there’s also the option to have it “animal style” (it’s a “secret” menu offering) with grilled onions, pickles and more spread.

That veggie burger looks good! I wish all fast food restaurants would offer an option like this. I know I can just order a burger and ask them to leave off the meat, but I’m still paying for the meat. I would hope this veggie sandwich is cheaper.

Me too! It would be easy for them because they wouldn’t have to buy anything extra like they would if they were to stock veggie burgers and cook them separately. If this were an option on every menu, it would spare me (and lots of other people) a lot of “you want a burger without meat WTF?!” looks and awkward comments some workers give.

I don’t have an In-N-Out Burger near me, but it does look pretty good. Hardee’s offers the same idea and with fries and a drink for less than $5 (here, anyway). I prefer it over places like BK that offer fake meat patties, although those are okay too.

The grilled cheese isn’t vegetarian – the cheese contains rennet.

And you can’t have it animal style if you are vegetarian because the grilled o ions are grilled in beef fat. In fact, the only way to ensure you are having a vegetarian sandwich is to order the vegetable sandwich without cheese not toasted. The hubs ate grilled on the same part of the grill as the meat.
