The other week, I tried out Plated, a food delivery system where you select dishes from their menu and they send you the recipe along with the ingredients necessary to prepare the dish. It’s pretty neat. The menu changes from week to week. The dishes on the menu are put together by featured chefs. You pick which recipes you like and they deliver everything you need – all the ingredients, perfectly measured, along with the recipes.
I made the Seared Shrimp with Tomato and Lemon Verbena Panzanella (with a twist) and the Tilapia Fish Tacos with Corn-Tomato Salsa and Avocado. Both recipes were easy to follow and simple to make. It was a fun experience. The service does the grocery shopping for you and saves you time with much of the prep work since all the ingredients are neatly labeled and measured out.
Plated offers membership subscriptions for automated weekly deliveries. They send you email reminders with the week’s menu and you choose your plates for the week, or they can pick them for you based on your past orders, and you can skip a week if you like. There’s also non-membership options where you can order whenever you like. Prices per plate range from $10 to $15 depending on membership. At the moment, Plated is available in most areas in the Northeast and Midwest. Areas include New York Tri-state area, Washington DC, Boston, Chicago and surrounding areas, Michigan, Indiana, St. Louis and Cleveland.
