Coffee and Oatmeal

Home Recipes Breakfast Coffee and Oatmeal

My usual breakfast consists of a bowl of oatmeal and a nice cup of french pressed coffee. I usually go for the regular old fashion oatmeal, cooked in water, and add combination of fun things like fruits, nuts, cinnamon, ginger, maple syrup, soy bean powder, nutritional yeast, peanut butter powder, etc. Occasionally, I eat raw oatmeal, soaked overnight in almond milk.

This morning I got curious. What about coffee and oatmeal? or coffee flavored oatmeal?

I poured 3/4 cup of oatmeal and 3/4 cup of water into a microwavable bowl. I threw it in the microwave for 2 minutes. The oatmeal will turn out very thick and most of the liquid will be absorbed. While the oatmeal is in the microwave, I prepared my strong french press coffee. I poured about 1/2 a cup of coffee into the oatmeal and added a few tablespoons of almond milk. Then, I threw in a handful of almonds, sprinkled some ginger and soybean powder, and stirred.

It was pretty tasty. It seemed a little odd at first, but I didn’t find the flavor combination to be too weird. There’s oatmeal coffee cake and coffee flavored oatmeal cookies, and those things are delicious. I am curious about cooking the oatmeal in coffee or soaking the oatmeal overnight in coffee.

There are probably others who have tried combining coffee and oatmeal. I searched the web and came across a couple of blogs where people either accidentally or purposefully merged their coffee and oatmeal: here, here, and here.

It makes me wonder, is there coffee flavored oatmeal out there? Have you ever tried cooking oatmeal in coffee? Does the combination of coffee and oatmeal sound appealing, weird, or unappetizing? Would be interested to hear some thoughts.
