Bread.A Bakery is located at 41-46 College Point Blvd (between 41 Ave and Sanford Ave) in Flushing, NY. It is a small Chinese Vegetarian/Vegan bakery serving organic baked goods. Their breads, cookies, cakes, etc. are made with no preservatives or artificial ingredients – just natural and organic grains, flours, nuts and other ingredients.
They have a nice variety of baked goods – much like the type of buns and pastries found in typical Chinese bakeries, except they are either vegetarian, non-dairy, gluten-free or vegan. They can offer custom made vegetarian/vegan cakes. They also serve a handful of vegetarian and vegan entrees like rice dishes, noodles, dumplings, as well as, sandwiches, soups, and salads. They also have special buffet offers during certain hours of the day (check their website for more info). They also offer catering services.
The bakery is located in a weird spot, kind of far away from all the other restaurants and shops. Its nearby neighbors are mostly construction and hardware stores and some residential buildings. Quiet block with not many passersby. There’s a table or two in the back of the bakery for sit-in dining, but the place is quite small.
On this visit, I picked up a one pound container of cookies and a few baked goodies.
Raisin cookies and Pumpkin cookies
Black sesame bun
Red bean bun
Mung bean pastry bun
I’ve only tried their baked goods, but I’m very curious about their vegetarian dishes. I really like their breads and buns. They are very tasty and the best part is that they’re made with healthy ingredients. The texture of their buns are just perfect. The prices for their vegetarian baked items are about a quarter or so more than their counterparts found in regular Chinese bakeries. I would highly recommend this bakery for vegetarians and super health conscious eaters. The people at the bakery are super friendly as well. The lady gave me generous samples of cookies and cakes to try while I was browsing in the bakery. She also clearly pointed out which items where specifically dairy-free or gluten-free. I’ll have to make a trip over there some time again.
