Coffee and donuts! That’s a great combination. Coffee and donuts for a quick breakfast or a snack. It’s probably not the most healthy thing to be eating all the time, but I do love to treat myself to some donuts once in a while. French crullers, old fashion and chocolate donuts are my favorites. I also like ones with sprinkles. I usually try to avoid the ones with too much frosting, although pink frosted (Homer Simpson) donuts are quite awesome. I used to love the Boston Creme, but now I find the creme filling to be too sweet and heavy for me.
In Toronto, I met Tim Hortons. Tim Hortons is this coffee/donuts fast food restaurant. I think of it as the Dunkin Donuts of Toronto, although Tim Hortons do have locations in Upstate NY and various other locations in the US. You can even download a list of US and Canada store locations from here and upload it to your GPS. Dunkin Donuts also have locations in Canada, but not in Toronto I believe.
There’s almost like one Tim Hortons on every block. I have to admit that I fell in love with their donuts after my first donut. I had their version of the French Cruller, but it was called something else instead of French Cruller. Their double chocolate donut was also delectable. Their donut selection was plentiful. In my opinion, their donuts are better than Dunkin Donuts, and way better than Krispy Creme. The best part about their donuts is that they aren’t insanely sweet, but still very satisfying. When I left Toronto, I did suffer from Tim Hortons withdrawal for a little bit. I think the closest Tim Hortons locations to me are probably in Syracuse, NY. On the other hand, for my morning beverage, I still think Dunkin Donuts coffee is best.
On a related note: Tim Hortons and Coldstone creamery forming co-branded stores in the US… Since this was announced earlier this year, there’s possibility that I might be seeing Tim Hortons around a little bit more.
