The 61st Annual Ginza Holiday Festival will take place at the Midwest Buddhist Temple in Old Town, August 12th through 14th. The Japanese cultural festival will feature Japanese arts, cuisine, and entertainment. Meet master craftpersons. Learn about bonsai and ikebana (flower arranging). There will be exhibitors offering Japanese textiles, t-shirts, kimonos, artwork and jewelry. There will also be Aikido, Judo and Kendo demonstrations. Live performances include aiko drumming by Ho Etsu Taiko and MBT Taiko, the MBT Minyo Group (Japanese folk dancing) and The Na Kupuna Ukulele group, as well as a special concert Saturday evening.
There will be lots of traditional Japanese cuisine, including grilled Chicken Teriyaki dinners, udon, sushi, Spam musubi, edamame, grilled corn on the cob and Hawaiian shave ice. For dessert, try the kintoki (Japanese snow cone topped with sweet azuki beans). Japanese beer will also be available.
