The Tang’s Natural NYC Dumpling Festival returns this Saturday, September 28 to Roosevelt Park in the Lower East Side. The event will run from 12 to 5pm and feature a dumpling eating contest from 1pm to 2pm. Attendees can prepare to sample dumplings from all over world, including Italy, China, Japan, Jamaica, and more. There will be savory dumplings. There will be sweet dumplings. Some may be steamed, Others fried. There’s going to be so many variations of dumplings.
At 1pm, competitive eaters will gather for the 10th Annual Chef One Dumpling Eating Contest in an attempt to beat the record of eating 74 dumplings in two minutes. There will be a men’s division and women’s division, each featuring 24 competitors. They include “Gentleman” Joe Menchetti, who has taken the men’s competition seven times, last year’s winner David “Tiger Wings n Things” Brunelli, who devoured 74 dumplings. Eight-time women’s champion Floria Lee, who set a record by downing 46 dumplings, will also return as a contender. Former international model JudyMae Liu will emcee.
Event sponsors include Tang’s Natural, Chef One, Bruce Cost Ginger Ale, Red Egg, Mika, H-Mart, Fairway, Delta Air Lines, Core Garment Solution, Poland Spring and VerTerra.
Tickets are $20 and sold at the door. All proceeds from ticket sales benefit the Food Bank For New York City.
