Windy City Ribfest 2013 – July 5, 6 & 7

windycityribfest2013If you couldn’t make it out to Ribfest Chicago earlier this month or want more ribs, the Windy City RibFest is three days of saucy ribs in the Uptown neighborhood.

The festival is back for its fifth year on July 5-7 with a plentiful slabs of ribs to go around, musical acts and also a daytime play area for children.

Whoever said Americans are the only ones who can make ribs haven’t yet tasted the “Barbies,” as they’re called Down Under, of Aussom Aussie Australian BBQ. Owner/founder Paul MacKay is quite the character and has been cooking up a storm for the last 25 years with unique recipes that include their tasty fruit-based barbeque sauce that returns again this year. And yep, mate, the company is indeed based in Sydney with a U.S. outpost in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Home-grown barbeque by Chicago BBQ has earned the Windy City quite the reputation at Midwest rib events by winning awards galore for this Berwyn-based company. Owned by barbeque expert Tom Ferguson, a popular presence at Windy City RibFest, he started the company in 1985 with a vision of creating the ultimate low and slow-smoke barbeque experience.

Arguably America’s best-known ribber, the chain was founded in 1994 in Hayward, Wis., opened its first location in Minneapolis. It now has locations in more than 30 states. If there’s a national rib “ambassador, it’s founder David Anderson whose road to fame began with his love for fine barbeque and a desire to make the finest slow-smoked barbeque folks have ever tasted.

Since Joey Sutphen took over his family-owned Texas barbeque business that was founded more than 60 years ago, he’s taken the family’s BBQ recipe to hundreds of rib events throughout the country. Texas Thunder returns to Windy City RibFest again this year and is sure to win hundreds more loyal fans to their savory cooking expertise.
