Lollapalooza 2012: Lagniappe Creole Cajun Joynt

Lagniappe Creole Cajun Joynt, a family-run restaurant in the south side of Chicago, can be found serving Cajun cuisine this year at Lollapalooza’s Chow Town North.

Lagniappe, which means “a small gift given a customer by a merchant at the time of a purchase,” cooked up for the festival Hot Wangs, Crawfish, Catfish Po’Boy (pictured, above) and Pulled Pork. A small gift handed out by employees are beads!

    Hi Cindy. I worked for this place at Lollapalooza. Both of their restaurants are closed for violations – I came to learn this because 2 weeks after the event we (the employees for the event) were asked to come to their closed down restaurant to receive our pay. Instead we got I.O.U.s, had to wait 2 additional weeks for our pay, and when we finally did get paid we received less than we should have. This woman, Mary Madison is a despicable human being – I call her human loosely – that takes advantage of hard working people and then expects them to pay for her bad business decisions. Anywhere that I see a review for or article about her and an upcoming event, I will be right there to let job seekers know what they will be getting if they work for her and patrons know that her safety record is seriously marred. If you are wondering how she managed to get a booth in the first place since the restaurant was cited for violations… Lagniappe was in her deceased father’s name. On the first day of the event (Friday, August 3, 2012) Lollapalooza organizers refused to allow them to sell food because their permit was denied (because the restaurant was closed for violations) so the owner put the permit for the event in her name. It took her half of the day. Most of the employees did not come back all three days because she spoke to people in a very disrespectful manner. Those of us that stayed definitely have our regrets.

    Bottom line: Lagniappe – eat at your own risk. Mary Madison – employer predator.
