HaChi Restaurant Preview and Grand Opening

This past Tuesday July 26th, HaChi Restaurant & Lounge celebrated its grand opening with a media event and preview party at their new space in the Lower East Side and we were there in attendance! HaChi, meaning the number “8” in Japanese (a lucky number), offers casual fine dining with a contemporary French-inspired Asian fusion menu.

At the event, guests enjoyed a tasting of selected items from their menu developed by consulting chef Jordy Lavanderos and head sushi chef Tony Zhao. Items included a Steamed Chilean Sea Bass Torchon, Seared Duck, Filet Mignon Roll, and Miso Eggplant as well as an array of Chef’s Special Sushi Rolls. There was also an open bar of wine, beer, and shochu-based cocktails.

The Steamed Chilean Sea Bass Torchon was served with an edamame/roasted fennel puree and a orange reduction sauce. The Seared Duck (pictured) was accompanied by crispy beets, baby arugula, pickle red onion puree, and a prune infusion vinaigrette.

The Filet Mignon Roll featured wasabi/mashed potatoes, carrot and ginger puree, and a sweet and sour pink pepper corn sauce. The Miso Eggplant (pictured) was served with mache lettuce and a ginger vinaigrette.

The regular menu will include an extensive list of both hot and cold “small plate” options in addition to many seasonal specialties from the Chef. Each unique dish is prepared with top of the line ingredients and French cuts of beef, fish and chicken, all executed with precision. There’s fusion in every dish, like the Calamari Martini with its 72 hour vodka marinade is served with a spicy aioli, the Kobe Beef Filet Mignon served with a wasabi potato spring roll, and the Steamed Chilean Sea Bass served with a black bean sauce, ginger, scallions and hot spindle oil seasoning.

HaChi’s owners, Danny Fok and Jerry Le, chose the Lower East Side for their new venture because they felt that it was an area in the midst of major growth. Here they can grow their restaurant right along with the neighborhood. The restaurant design features an open and spacious dual-level concept mixed with the tranquility of a Japanese garden, allowing customers to experience the flare of NYC with the laid-back attitude of the LES. There’s the lounge and bar on the ground floor and a larger dining area upstairs. HaChi might appear very chic and upscale at first sight, but General Manager Brandon Gross says, “We’re looking to create a personal relationship with our customers. We want everyone to feel welcome at HaChi.”

In the coming months, HaChi will be introducing a late night menu as well as a weekly entertainment schedule with live music and happy hour specials. HaChi Restaurant & Lounge is located at 185 Orchard Street, between Houston and Stanton and will be open 7 days a week from 4:30pm-2am.
