on

The 4th Annual NYC Veggie Pride Parade will take place in Greenwich Village/Union Square on Sunday, May 15, 2011. The Veggie Pride Parade is about standing up for the vegetarian and vegan lifestyles, and raising awareness about animal cruelty and factory farming issues. Parade participants dress up in veggie-themed costumes to express their pride in their vegetarian/vegan lifestyle. There will be local restaurants and organizations, animal-right activists, environmentalists, and many more!

The parade will begin at noon in the Old Meat Packing District, at the intersection of 9th Ave and Gansevoort St, and end at Union Square Park. Wait, but the fun does not end there! At Union Square, there will be a post-parade rally and expo with speaker presentations and lots of entertainment for all to enjoy. And of course, there will be delicious foods and a variety of exhibitors to check out too.

Exhibitors include A Well Fed World, American Vegan Society, Black Vegetarians of New York, Farm Santuary, PeTA, and Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary, and food from Integral Yoga Natural Foods, Sequel Naturals, V-Spot, and Whole Earth Bakery… just to name a few. There will also be a costume contest at 2pm, where participants have a chance to win cool prizes from places like Candle Cafe and Peace Food Cafe.

Organizer Pamela Rice feels confident that this year’s parade will be bigger and better than ever, and says, “I’m hoping that at this event people will see vegans and vegetarians come out of the shadows, once and for all.”

So, come join the fun this Sunday May 15th!
