Travel adventures in London

on

As you might have read from my Twitter updates, I was in London for a few days earlier this month. I got back to NY last week and I’ve been meaning to write a brief post about my trip. I was in London for work and was busy for the most part. I spent most of my time at the hotel I was staying at and ate all my meals there too. I posted some pictures of the food I encountered during my trip – from airplane food to hotel restaurant food. Although I was only there for a few days, I did manage to sneak in a little London exploration with a few of my fellow colleagues during our last night in England. Here’s a recap of my adventures.

We went to check out The London Eye – tallest Ferris wheel in Europe. The Merlin Entertainments London Eye stands at 135 meters (or 443 ft)! We purchased a ticket for our 30 minute ride in one of those passenger capsules up above the River Thames. They had a 4D experience pre-flight show… which was eh, kind of lame, but the real ride was great. The view was amazing!

We said greetings to Big Ben and also swung by Buckingham Palace.

We came across some waffles as well as some pancakes.

For dinner, we ventured over the Leicester Square area, which is their cinema and entertainment area. There is also a handful of restaurants, bars, and pubs in the area. We walked around snapping pictures like tourists before settling at a restaurant for some pub food and alcohol.

l’ve been eating all my meals in the hotel, so I was definitely looking forward to eating somewhere different. So far, the food at the hotel has been alright. The dishes looked great but the food was just ok. The meals weren’t horrible but they weren’t super tasty either. I was introduced to the profiterole tower for dessert one evening, which was very neat. Weirdly enough, the dish I enjoyed most at the hotel was this smoked salmon watercress salad with avocado and cucumber. It was so simple but really delightful in my opinion.

That night we ended up having dinner at Garfunkel’s restaurant, which is a casual restaurant that serves a range of British and American dishes. I didn’t know that it was a chain restaurant until later on. Read more about it here.

I was only in England for a few days, and even though I was jet-lagged and confused with time, it was a pleasant trip. Productive days. It was great reconnecting with colleagues, riding the train/tube, and exploring London in the cold weather. It was my first time in Europe actually. It would be fun to return to London during the summer time, when the weather is warmer and the skies are not as foggy and gloomy. I do recall seeing sunlight very briefly at one time, but yeah, it was very briefly.

It’s bad you didn’t have more time to explore London. It sounds like you managed to enjoy the free time you did have though. Your photos are great!

Lucky to be there even for a few days. That photo of the Eye is spectacular.
