Laura Posada Talks ‘Fit Home Team’ Nutrition Guide

I had the pleasure of chatting with Laura Posada at the McDonald’s First Taste Event last week. Laura Posada is the author of “Fit Home Team”. She’s a model, actress, attorney, certified personal trainer, and wife of New York Yankee’s Jorge Posada. She is also the co-founder and President of the Jorge Posada Foundation which brings awareness and support to families affected by Craniosynostosis.

Her book Fit Home Team is a simple guide to raising a healthy and fit family. She provides tips for eating right and developing healthy habits for the whole family. She emphasizes the importance of learning healthy eating habits from a young age. The book contains nutritious kid-friendly recipes, along with ideas of inexpensive seasonal activities for staying fit and having fun.

On McDonald’s Fruit and Maple Oatmeal, she really likes the oatmeal and says it tastes really good. It reminds her of how her grandma used to make oatmeal for her when she was little. She finds that oatmeal is a great healthy way to start the day. It can also be a nice afternoon snack in between meals, way better than grabbing a candy bar. She’s a fan of the sweet and fresh fruit topping.

On eating and staying fit…

  • Diet has to be balance. Any diet that requires you to give up any food group is not something you can keep up forever and don’t think it’s good for you either.
  • It’s ok to get treats once in a while. If she wants to eat something sweet, she’ll eat it. Want dessert? Share dessert instead of individual
  • Eating healthy is not good enough. You also need to exercise.

She shares that when she is at home, her typical breakfast consists of an egg white omelette, with turkey, tomato, onions, and whole wheat toast, along with tomato juice with lime. That’s how she likes to start her day. She adds that she drink lots of water “like a camel.”

What is one of your favorite recipes?
“Tacos!” she exclaimed. Cut chicken in small pieces. Season and cook the chicken. Place chicken into a tortilla. Add sliced pineapples, sliced cilantro, sliced onions, and her green tomatillo spicy sauce, made with green tomatillo and jalapenos. Topped with a squeeze of lime.

What would be your last meal?
She starts with building a salad with a bed of mixed greens. Add mandarin orange wedges, almonds, grilled chicken and drizzled with an Asian dressing. For dessert, something sweet. Maybe mini chocolate cookies or something like that. Her beverage of choice would be more water!

    Terrific interview. I really like Laura’s attitude towards a healthy diet. Her book looks like a great resource for families.
