Dick’s Last Resort?

I heard about a restaurant chain called Dick’s Last Resort. Apparently, the theme of the restaurant is to be the restaurant with the worst service and outrageous wait staff. Hence the “last resort”. They have multiple locations in Boston, Chicago, Dallas, San Antonio, Myrtle Beach, San Diego, and Las Vegas. Since I’m closest to Boston, I definitely plan on making a trip there and have a dining experience at that location.

The energetic waiters and waitress behave rudely and spontaneous, in a comedic way, towards the customers. It’s all for fun. In turn, the customers can talk back and yell at the wait staff. It sounds pretty fun.
I searched the internet to gather some info on this restaurant. Some people hate it because the service is so terrible. But then again, what can you expect, it’s their theme. Some people get intimated by the wait staff, because they were unaware of the restaurant’s theme or are just too shy. Others have a great time screaming and laughing.
They also offer live music and did I mention there’s a bar? I would definitely recommend going there, if you dare. I have no insight about the food, but looking at their menu, it seems pretty typical restaurant/bar food. I wouldn’t expect too much of the food. I think it’s mostly the atmosphere that counts.

Flan: Part II

I was a little disappointed with how my flan came out. It ended up looking like a chunky cheesecake and tasted like a ultra sweet egg custard cheesecake. It wasn’t bad, though, considering it was my first try.

Looky:
I was sad when I discovered that the caramelized sugar crystallized onto the pan when I flipped it over. Unfortunately, my flan did not obtain that nice brown caramel layer on top and only the custard portion of it jiggled its way onto the pie.

Tasty:
It didn’t taste bad or anything, but it was a bit too much on the sweet side. The taste of the condensed milk was a too overwhelming and the cheesecake made the flan way too thick and creamy.

Flan, Part I

Flan (also known as caramel custard or creme caramel) is one of my favorite Spanish desserts. Earlier last week I came across a recipe for this savory and super tasty treat in a newspaper. I was very excited and was looking forward to making flan for the very first time. It’s been such a buzy week, but I finally had the chance to spend some time in the kitchen and give it a try. After a quick run to the local Price Chopper, I laid out all the ingredients and started to prepare this flan at about 10:12pm. As of 12:30am, it is sitting in my refrigerator getting chilled.

More to come:
1. Post the recipe I clipped out of the newspaper
2. Post the pictures taken of my struggle to make delicious flan
3. Remove the flan from the refrigerator and feed them to my testers
4. Listen to what my testers have to say
